Synopsis: As the COVID-19 spread in early 2020, most schools had to transition to remote learning. This abrupt transition highlighted disparities in the quality of education students received, based on their socioeconomic background. In this study, we researched the effect of school closures on students, teachers, and parents focusing on how the pandemic emphasized the socioeconomic disparities in education systems. Furthermore, we researched reopening plans and the lessons learned from reopening school policies around the world and assessed the effect of policies and how our education systems could provide an equitable education for all students, regardless of their financial backgrounds.
